Established in 2003, the awards recognise world-leading Kiwis whose inspiring achievements are defining New Zealand's image internationally. The Awards are New Zealand’s premiere networking event and an opportunity to connect with New Zealand business people, entrepreneurs and political leaders who all share a vision to make New Zealand succeed.
The Supreme Award honours a person whom has shown exceptional talent, leadership and character at the highest level and who exhibits qualities of character who New Zealanders strongly revere. Our Friend of New Zealand award recognises the significant contribution made to our country by someone who is not a New Zealand citizen.
The purpose of the World Class New Zealand Awards is to inspire New Zealanders by celebrating world-leading, world-changing Kiwis. Nominees should be remarkable people, exceptional achievers whose stories will inspire and motivate New Zealanders.
Typically this will be indicated by a sustained history of achievement at the highest level, demonstrating qualities such as imagination and creativity, innovativeness and ingenuity, tenacity and determination to succeed against all odds. Merely being successful in their chosen career is not a sufficient qualification; the nominee’s life’s work should be world-leading and, at least potentially, world-changing too.
Other criteria that the judges may take into account include the nominee’s track record of:
- Increasing New Zealand’s global connectedness through the exchange of information, knowledge, skills or access to networks.
- Being a role model, exhibiting personal qualities that New Zealanders revere.
- Promoting New Zealand and New Zealand’s values internationally, creating a positive international image and reputation for the nation.
Nominations are managed with a high degree of confidentially. We never make contact with nominees, and we recommend that the nominee is not made aware of his/her nomination, in order to avoid disappointment in the event that the nomination is unsuccessful.
