Join the NZ High Commission in London's Commemorative Waiata

Haka_Pioneer_1918_MasseyThis Anzac day marks 100 years since the Gallipoli landings and we want to organise something really special to commemorate the significance of this day and the unimaginable sacrifices the ANZACs made for us.

We want to show the people of the UK, and those watching around the world, that we have not forgotten those boys. We will remember them. And what better way than through music and our culture.

At the end of the Dawn service on the 25th of April, held at Hyde Park corner, Ng?ti R?nana, will lead a mass performance of the WWI Waiata ‘E pari r? ’.  We want as many people as possible to join us for this special occasion. You don’t need any experience only enthusiasm!

E Pari R? is a hauntingly beautiful Waiata written in 1918, by Paraire Tomoana. He wrote it for his relation Maku-i-te-Rangi Ellison whose son, Whakatomo Ellison, died in the First World War. He expressed not only the feelings of Maku, but of a nation grieving and saying goodbye to their boys.
