General Manager – Shanghai
Primary Collaboration New Zealand (Shanghai) Co. Ltd
Primary Collaboration New Zealand (Shanghai) Co Ltd, (PCNZ Shanghai), a collaboration of six of New Zealand’s finest primary sector producer companies, is seeking a high-calibre General Manager for its newly-established company, to be based in Shanghai. Leading the set-up and development of this unique venture, this is a rare leadership opportunity for a strong, mature General Manager who will have a broad range of management experiences, and who also has the requisite personal skills to be successful in one of the world’s most dynamic and complex markets.
Six of New Zealand’s finest primary sector producer companies are driving this collaboration, with the goal of deepening their commercial footprint in New Zealand’s largest export market – China. Those companies are Pacific Pace (itself a collaboration between apple and producer companies Mr Apple and the Crasborn and Bostock Groups) Villa Maria, Sealord, Silver Fern Farms, Synlait, and KONO. The General Manager will report to the Board of PCNZ (Shanghai).
A new Wholly Owned Foreign Entity (WOFE) has been collaboratively formed between the six shareholding businesses, an office site has been chosen in an attractive downtown business centre in Shanghai, with the ongoing support of NZ Trade and Enterprise project management, and the venture now awaits the appointment of key personnel, starting with this General Manager position. The key requirements are:
- Managing a mixed team of PCNZ Shanghai staff (Finance, Admin) plus the Market Managers who will provide market intelligence and services to the six constituent companies;
- Managing all the PCNZ Shanghai business and administration requirements, including human resources, legal, finance, property, procurement and security requirements;
- Providing in-market leadership and commercial support, for the six companies;
- Maintaining close liaison with New Zealand agencies based in Shanghai (including NZTE, MPI, and MFAT)
- Representing PCNZ Shanghai with all local government, customs, supply chain, and regulatory authorities, in China.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced manager who wants to contribute to New Zealand’s growing trade with China. The ideal person for this role will be a very experienced Manager in a primary produce sector, will have a strong customer focus, and have previous China business experience. The preferred candidate will also be an excellent people manager. Given the large number of stakeholders, the role requires that this person is highly organised, and has strong communication and reporting skills. Some Chinese language skills would be viewed very favourably, although a lack of language should not deter a skilled applicant.
