Auckland Tripartite Summit set to boost New Zealand trade

An outstanding line-up of speakers and expert panellists, and a unique business matching programme to enable companies to progress deals and partnerships, headline next month’s Tripartite Economic Summit Auckland 2016.

Delegates at the upcoming invitation-only summit – which has been developed by economic development agency, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) - on behalf of Auckland Council – will be able to connect with each other and do business before they even touch down in Auckland via an app ATEED will shortly be launching.

The summit, which aims to foster business connections between Auckland and its sister cities of Guangzhou and Los Angeles, will take place at the Viaduct Events Centre on 16 and 17 May. It follows the inaugural summit in LA last year.

More than 350 delegates are so far confirmed - including substantial Mayor-led business delegations from LA and Guangzhou.

A number of major corporate partners have been secured, including BNZ, Huawei, Callaghan Innovation and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

World-renowned speakers and panellists have been secured, including: Dr Erez Morag, former Head of Innovation at Nike and Founder of Acceler8 Performance Ltd; Professor Xue-Feng Yuan, renowned Director of the National Supercomputer Centre in Guangzhou; and US-based Sunny Bates, business connector and networker extraordinaire.

A specially designed business matching process is a key feature of Auckland’s summit. It will allow delegate companies from all three cities to meet their objectives – whether that is to enter the US, China or New Zealand market with an expert local partner, discover the perfect supplier, or find their next investment opportunity.

Each delegate will be given access to the ShowGizmo app, which enables them to search for delegates based on their background and business interests; see and meet each other; get live updates on what’s happening at the conference; post photos and updates and create a personalised itinerary of sessions they want to attend.

Delegates will be able to discover other companies from their sector which are registered for the event, make contact with the right person, and begin fruitful pre-summit conversation. That process will allow delegates to hit the ground running during the event itself with crucial face-to-face engagement in the BNZ Business Activation Lounge.

There are five sectors of focus for the summit where Auckland has world-leading companies and expertise, significant opportunity for growth, and is globally competitive:

  • Advanced materials (such as composites)
  • High-value foods
  • New media, entertainment/digital
  • Smart data
  • Urban design
