A heart-felt message of solidarity to all our Kea members in Brussels and Europe. We are thinking of you all in these difficult times.
Below is MFAT’s official advice to New Zealanders in Belgium:
On Tuesday 22 March, two explosions occurred at Zaventum International Airport in Brussels and a further explosion occurred at Maelbeek metro station. There are reports of deaths and injuries. Zaventum International Airport is now closed and metro services may be affected.
New Zealanders currently in Belgium are advised to exercise heightened vigilence at this time, monitor the media for updates and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, including any restrictions on movement.
If you are in an area where security operations are under way, you should follow the instructions of the Belgian security authorities. Police have asked the public not to comment on security operations via social media.
We also recommend contacting family in New Zealand as soon as possible to let them know you are okay.
New Zealanders who require consular assistance are advised to contact the New Zealand Embassy in Brussels on +32 2 512 1040.
We now advise against all tourist and other non-essential travel to Belgium due to the threat of terrorism. Read the full travel advisory for more information: www.safetravel.govt.nz/belgium
