We are currently recruiting for the role of Trade Commissioner to Malaysia.

Based in Kuala Lumpur the Trade Commissioner is a senior role representing New Zealand's interests in Malaysia and a strong contributor to the East Asia leadership team. Malaysia is a dynamic market and NZ enjoys a mature relationship with Malaysia celebrating 60 years of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2017.

We are seeking a self-motivated person to lead and mentor the Kuala Lumpur team and support NZ companies across a variety of sectors to access Malaysian based opportunities for international business. This role is charged with creating an annual operating plan in line with the regional strategy, focusing the team on areas of high growth potential for NZ businesses, and initiating and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders/potential business partners.

Ideally you will have management experience in Malaysia, knowledge of the local customs, strong diplomatic skills, and can demonstrable commercial business experience. The ability to listen and understand different audiences' needs will be key, as well as expertise in being a networker and connector. Experience relating to the sectors of food and beverage, information technology and health would be beneficial

International Trade Commissioner Postings are a minimum of 3 years in duration and you will receive a thorough induction programme prior to commencing your posting. Malay language capability or a strong desire to learn the language is desirable.

This is an official representative role and the successful candidate will be subject to a number of vetting processes including NZ Secret Security clearance.
