Port Otago Ltd (POL) is a major export hub of the South Island, providing a full range of port related services from its Port Chalmers and Dunedin facilities.  Their focus is on achieving superior results in all activities through strong commitment to quality improvement.  The business is dynamic, has a “hands-on” practical culture and provides career development opportunities to high performers.

The Health & Safety Manager will report to the General Manager People and be a key member of a small, multi-disciplined team delivering Human Resources, Health and Safety, and Training and Development leadership across all Port Otago’s sites.  The team’s focus is to work together and support a culture that will enable the achievement of Zero Harm on all work sites.  This role will be fully supported by the CEO and will be a member of the POL Board H&S Governance Committee.

Key responsibilities of the Health & Safety Manager include:

Confirming, developing, implementing & embedding health & safety strategies with particular emphasis on cultural improvement in aligning safety, quality and risk in everything the business does

Championing safety, health, well-being and rehabilitation programmes

Being highly visible as a safety leader in the field on all Port Otago sites

This senior level opportunity may appeal to a Generalist HR professional who has significant experience in health and safety, a Quality and Assurance person who has a particular interest in health and safety or an experienced, practical HSE practitioner.

The focus of the role and the team requires a person who can introduce change, influence behaviours, take a practical view of what is required and support the team.  Your ability to communicate and relate effectively within the port environment is essential.  Above all else you will have the desire and commitment to contribute at a high level within Port Otago.
