Sector Group is a multi-disciplinary group in the Ministry of Justice that brings together the best of strategy, policy, data analysis, research and evaluation capabilities to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. It is looking to strengthen how it engages with others, ensure its teams have a solid understanding of stakeholders, and provide a solid foundation for the strategic work with justice sector partners.

Much of the Ministry’s mahi involves working collaboratively with stakeholders right across the sector, other agencies, community groups and Māori. The Strategy, Evidence and Investment team has an extensive work programme that involves working with senior leaders, Chief Executives and stakeholders across the justice sector to deliver ambitious results for a safe and just Aotearoa New Zealand.  As well cross-sectoral strategic work, the team also delivers the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey, manages the Proceeds of Crime Fund, and monitors and supports the seven justice sector Crown entities. 

Reporting to the General Manager, Strategy, Evidence and Investment, you will be an experienced Principal Advisor and will work with the SEI leadership team. You will develop a measurable and dynamic stakeholder communication and engagement strategy that seeks to enhance relationships and programme delivery. This will be supported by a stakeholder analysis that cultivates relationships and strategic partnerships, informing and improving the team’s work.  An experienced communications specialist, you will help develop approaches and tools that ensure consistent and effective communications services which are fit for purpose.

Your experience and attributes should include:

  • Strategic/engagement communications planning experience
  • Understanding and commitment to the Treaty and te ao Māori
  • Strong writer (media/web experience a plus)
  • Understanding of the machinery of government and complexity
  • Influencing, coaching skills
  • Team player
  • An understanding of or experience with the justice sector.
