Are you looking for a fully encompassing Plant Health & Safety management role?  

Established in 1948, Alliance Group has its Head Office in Invercargill and operates eight processing plants which are strategically placed across the South Island and lower North Island.  The company is a farmer-owned co-operative and is one of the largest exporters of meat products from New Zealand.  The Alliance Group’s Smithfield Plant, which is located in Timaru, is currently involved in a major capital investment programme. 

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced health and safety professional to play a key leadership role in Smithfield’s plant performance improvement programme through providing expert health & safety advice and support.  Leading a significant improvement in health & safety performance on the large complex manufacturing site is a key objective.  As a member of the Plant’s Management Team you will assist the Plant Manager in developing a performance focused culture.  You will also work with the Group Manager Health and Safety to deliver the company-wide health & safety strategy.

Specific responsibilities for this role include ensuring that company health & safety strategies and systems are fully communicated and implemented throughout the Plant and to drive continuous improvement and best practice in health & safety.  Providing expert health & safety advice and coaching to the Plant Management Team are core involvements.  Other responsibilities include health and safety planning and management, accident investigation and reporting, risk management and injury management. 

Candidates for this role will possess the following:

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to build trust and work across all levels within the Plant
  • Substantial “hands on” health & safety leadership experience within a manufacturing or food processing environment
  • The proven ability to lead improvement initiatives in health & safety performance
  • Solid legislative and technical HSE knowledge
  • A relevant qualification in health & safety
