The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will manage the development and delivery of people, recruitment and health and safety frameworks for the Westland District Council. You will champion the people strategy in order for Westland District Council to be an acknowledged “Employer of Choice” by driving operational priorities and partnering with organisational leads through practical advice and support.

You will be responsible for the oversight of recruitment and selection processes, ensuring the appointment of high-quality team members in line with the council’s values. In addition, you will oversee the effective performance management process, employee engagement, remuneration structures and learning and development programmes. You will also be responsible for role modelling a “Safety First” approach by ensuring organisation wide understanding and adherence to safety policies, work practices, and culture. In essence supporting our people from “hire to retire”.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will be a proactive and experienced HR professional with experience in employee attraction and retention, performance management, and health and safety best practice. Strong interpersonal skills, robust attention to detail, and the ability to relate to all levels within the organisation to drive organisational culture are integral. A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline is desirable.
