·        Key Governance Position

·        Diverse, Challenging and Changing Industry

·        Commercial Focus – Community Benefit

Alpine Energy manages South Canterbury’s electricity distribution network (connecting over 31,000 customers) as well as operating a fibre optic communications network.  The company is owned by the South Canterbury community and as such, all profits go back into the community by way of dividends and local sponsorship.  The Alpine Energy Group also consists of subsidiary companies with separate boards, NETcon (an electrical contracting company), and Infratec (delivering renewable technology projects in New Zealand and overseas) in addition to complimentary investments in metering and technology companies - On Metering and SmartCo.

LineTrust South Canterbury, who hold a 40% share ownership in Alpine Energy, seek to appoint an experienced and high performing Director to the Alpine Energy board due to the upcoming completion of a current Director’s term. The Director will possess strong leadership qualities, a strategic, commercially focused and innovative mindset and will work collaboratively as part of a Board of 5, contributing diversity of thought to ensure successful and sustainable long-term business performance. It’s an exciting time for the electricity sector, with disruptive technologies, an ever-evolving regulatory environment and changing consumer behaviour and so the ability to respond to industry challenges and maximise new opportunities will be key.

Applicants must be experienced Directors with a proven track record of effective contribution to the successful performance and long-term future planning of a significant business at a governance level.  Strong leadership skills, proven strategic thinking ability, well-developed commercial and financial acumen, and a high level of intellect are therefore essential. A strong appreciation for Health & Safety is mandatory for any Director and any knowledge/experience of the energy/electricity sector would be distinctly beneficial, however it is not a prerequisite for application.

The Board usually convenes 10 times a year (6 face to face). This is a remunerated appointment.

To apply in strict confidence now, email your cover letter and CV to cvchc@sheffield.co.nz quoting 6544kea.  Applications close on 21st June 2020.  Emails will be electronically acknowledged and further correspondence may be by email.
