The Company:

Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL) is the gateway to the South Island and New Zealand’s second largest airport.  The airport plays an active and important role in championing the economic and social outcomes of Christchurch and the South Island through a highly focused business strategy built around six key pillars (planes, passengers and property & people, planet and protection). The Airport Company employs approx. 250 staff, has further responsibility for over 6,000 people that work ‘on campus’ and manages over 35,000 passenger movements each day.

The Role:

Health, Safety & Wellbeing is firmly embedded in the Airport’s business plan and the desire for world class performance in this field is non-negotiable. As such, this is a key senior position for CIAL, reporting to the GM People, Culture & Safety, interfacing at all levels and with regular interaction with the executive leadership team, CEO and Board. Leading a team of 3, this role will champion the development and implementation of a proactive Safety II culture and enhance the Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy framework, driving continuous improvement beyond a compliance approach across CIAL in the areas of Culture, Risk Management and Safety Management Systems.

The role is incredibly diverse and will focus on all aspects of Health, Safety & Wellbeing across the vast majority of all the Airport company’s broad operations.  These include; all employees, the Airport’s property construction, development and management related activities, retail tenants, in terminal activities, ground transport and a host of related contractor management requirements.  This role will also collaborate closely with the Manager Aviation Safety & Security to achieve a fully integrated business-wide Safety II culture.  

The Candidate:

Applicants will have a proven track record of working in a senior leadership capacity, successfully enhancing the Health, Safety & Wellbeing culture of a fast-paced, multi-faceted business environment. Candidates will possess the passion and ability to continually raise the bar and will be well versed at developing strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups in a strategic and operational capacity.  Previous experience working within an airport, airline, large venue or construction related environment would be ideal and any current knowledge/experience of Safety II and ICAM would be highly advantageous. Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills along with a pragmatic, practical and collaborative approach will be the key to your success.
