Invercargill City Council operations are undergoing significant transformation with a new organisational structure to support these changes.  The objective being to deliver council services to a higher standard, more efficiently and affordably to ratepayers.  A number of new positions have arisen from these changes and offer a unique opportunity to be in the vanguard of changes to local government service delivery.

Reporting to the Group Manager – Strategy and Engagement, this newly created senior position will lead the recently amalgamated Communications team, providing specialist expertise to ensure the effective delivery of internal and external communications, including branding, website and graphic design services across Council departments and Council Controlled Organisation’s.  Leading a team of 8 direct reports you will be responsible for managing public and media relations, marketing campaigns and special projects, as well as developing staff capability and consistency in approach across the organisation.

Desirable candidates will have senior leadership experience in communications, ideally in local government or a relevant sector.  We seek a resilient and successful leader, who is passionate about developing their people and has prior experience inspiring change to build a strong culture with aligned values and behaviours.  You will have strong experience with media and public relations, marketing and communications strategy, along with proven skills developing successful stakeholder engagement.
