Who we are:

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has one simple purpose. We help New Zealand businesses grow internationally - bigger, better, faster - for the benefit of New Zealand. We thrive on providing our customers (NZ businesses) with world-class advice on how to expand internationally and helping them build the capability they need to succeed on the world stage.

As NZ's international business development agency with offices in 50 locations around the world, our work environment is dynamic, exciting and challenging.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role you will deal with a broad range of issues, such as reviewing commercial contracts, identifying and advising on Closer Economic Relations and World Trade Organisation issues, managing litigation and advising on legislative compliance issues.  As part of our small Legal team you will be one of the “go to” people for all of NZTE’s legal issues and it is highly likely that you will be called on to deal with issues in areas of law that you are not familiar with.

What you’ll need to be successful:

The role is best suited to a mid-level lawyer, but we will consider applicants with more than one year’s legal experience.  Ideally your most relevant prior experience will be in a public sector legal team, commercial or public law team in a private law firm; or as an in-house commercial lawyer in a private sector entity.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships across the business, providing pragmatic solutions and making judgement calls.  A proactive, collaborative approach, and a 'can do' attitude will be key to success.

Why you’ll love working here:

At NZTE it’s all about the people!  We have an excellent work culture and our people are highly collaborative, practical and driven.

For more information, please read the position description attached.

Applications close 9am NZT Tuesday 2 June. You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.

We believe New Zealand is good for the world.  A country embracing its diverse landscapes and even greater diversity of its people.  At NZTE it's all about the people.  We work flexibly at NZTE and we're keen to talk to you about what that might mean for you in this role.  We're deeply connected to the diversity of our people across the globe and embrace how that drives our organisation and the country forward.
