The School has approximately 1200 EFTS and 70 staff, with a strong undergraduate base and an expanding postgraduate department.  The curricula spans the undergraduate Bachelor of Communication Studies degree and postgraduate programmes including M Communication Studies, MPhil and PhD.

We are ambitious, committed to innovative, critical and creative research and are looking for a leader who has a vision for the future of the Communications industry, Communication Studies and for the development of the academic discipline and industry engagement.

This is a real people role and as such we are looking for a strong leader who is a great communicator and highly resilient to mold our School with a common sense of belonging. You will have held a Head of School position or equivalent leadership role within industry and be able to demonstrate leadership at a senior level. Your leadership style will be highly collaborative and you will be known for your engaging and empathetic approach. This role also supports the Dean's Senior Leadership Team in providing strategic leadership for the Faculty. 

You will be expected to lead teaching, research and administration in the School, along with research and project activities with industry partners. A PhD is essential and you will have an established research history, in both personal research outputs and working in teams, as well as discipline knowledge and strengths in the field of Communication Studies.  The position offers you potential for future career development in university management roles. 

Significant experience in university environments and an ability to articulate a well-developed strategic vision for the School and Faculty are required in this role.  Successful engagement of staff in this journey is essential.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build strategic alliances within the Faculty, the wider University and the outside community must also be demonstrated.
