Salmond College is a residential college affiliated to the University of Otago in Dunedin accommodating up to 262 residents and shares a 4.57 hectare landscaped site with Knox College.  Privately owned and run independently from the university, it is governed by The Board of Knox College and Salmond College, a body with links to the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand.  Opened in 1971 as Salmond Hall originally to accommodate women students, it became a coeducational facility during the 1970s.

Working closely with the Board, the Head is responsible for the strategic leadership and administration of the College, the welfare of its students, and further development of the unique character of Salmond College.  The role works in a collaborative manner with the Head of Knox College in sharing the management responsibilities for the whole campus and the staff who work across both colleges. Key will be the development of strategies required to lead the College ensuring it remains relevant to the modern student without losing the history and traditions, whilst continuing to provide a safe supportive student environment with a strong reputation. 

Salmond College is looking for a person with:

  • visionary leadership, strong presence and charisma;
  • ability to move easily between a variety of social, educational and cultural contexts;
  • commercial acumen with strong general management skills;
  • proven experience in a senior role within an educational environment;
  • proven ability to work positively with young adults.

Key to success will be your strategic leadership ability and management skills together with empathy with the Christian faith, and a strong affinity for the pastoral care of students contributing to a caring and supportive environment.
