General Manager, Retail Operations

The GM Retail Operations will embrace the opportunity of working closely with store owners nationwide (Members). This role affords the opportunity to be part of a business committed to grow and support its Members' operations. While being an advocate for the Members and enabling Mitre 10 to achieve its goals, the GM Retail Operations plays a crucial role to the overall efficiency, productivity and success of the Mitre 10 business.

The GM Retail Operations will be accountable for maintaining positive relations with Members as well as leading and managing Member expectations and compliance requirements. The GM Retail Operations will also work closely with Members to provide operational support, advice and innovative ideas to increase their profitability and assist them in improving their overall businesses.

This role requires a balance between achieving what is best for the Members and what is best for the Co-operative, while maintaining Mitre 10’s high service ethos.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Extensive retail experience in a large national or multinational organisation, ideally gained both in New Zealand and overseas – from shop floor standards through to understanding profitability levers and improving productivity

Key measures of success for the GM Retail Operations include:

  • Acting as a key player in driving efficiency and Member profitability

  • Providing the required support to build and achieve the Members’ business goals

  • Creating a positive internal and external perception of someone who is approachable and understands the Members’ businesses

  • Maintaining a strong relationship of trust with the Members
