Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, Policy and Organisational Strategy, the General Manager Policy is responsible for developing and leading the policy approach for Oranga Tamariki.


What will you do?

The General Manager will lead a large team that includes policy managers, principals and analysts. Policy work is central to achieving Oranga Tamariki’s purpose.

For this role we are seeking a policy leader, someone who possesses political acumen, a systems thinker, with extensive experience in policy making and a strong understanding of social sector issues. As General Manager of the Policy Group, you will ensure our policies, legislation and external guidance are fit for purpose. You will be responsible for leading new work and seeking changes where necessary to support the transformation of Oranga Tamariki already underway and to ensure the ongoing public trust and confidence in Oranga Tamariki.

You will have an understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori and concerns, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture, and show sensitivity to issues faced in the work of Oranga Tamariki.

To be considered for this high-profile position, you must be a seasoned policy professional who has extensive leadership experience. You will be strategic in your thinking and be an effective contributor to the senior leadership team and cross-government social sector discussions. You will enjoy engaging with key stakeholders and have a thorough understanding of Government policy priorities.
