Work type:

·      Passionate communicator

·      Addressing questions of global significance

Established as a Trust in 2012, the New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute (NZARI) partners with research agencies to develop a global understanding of Antarctica’s impacts and vulnerability in a changing global climate, and in turn the impact on global systems.  The mission is to facilitate research that motivates communities, policy makers and world leaders to act.  The Institute is a public private partnership led by an independent Board of networked and committed Trustees.

To support its vision NZARI works with forward-thinking funding partners concerned with global scale connections to Antarctica and the consequences of its changing environment and impact on humanity.  NZARI has been structured to ensure it is nimble in its decision making, and its scientific research programme is both highly relevant and cutting edge.

Reporting to NZARI’s Trust Board, the Director works with two Deputy Directors and leads the Institute in building and maintaining key international stakeholder relationships, identifying and securing ongoing sources of research funding and facilitates the process for selecting research initiatives, reporting and communicating research outcomes.

The role offers some flexibility in the accommodation of other commitments and interests.

The appointee will display the following attributes:

 ·      Scientific credibility and be an accomplished story teller.

·      Exceptional relationship management, networking and negotiation skills.

·      Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills.

·      A passion for science at the forefront of discovery with outcomes that inspires decision makers.
