Hi there! Thanks for stopping by đź‘‹
Are you an experienced software engineering leader looking to join an established SaaS company? We have THE opportunity that will skyrocket your career!
We are looking for a Director of Engineering to inspire and guide the engineering teams working on the Vend product, helping them to deliver value rapidly and frequently. You’ll work directly with a group of Lead Engineers to help their teams continuously improve their processes, tooling, and performance. You’ll make sure we’re growing a diverse, happy, and high-performance team of Software Engineers.
Who we are and what we do:
Vend is an award-winning Saas company winning on a global scale. We have over 250 talented people across 5 major markets (US, CA, UK, NZ, AU) working to delight approximately 25,000 awesome retailers worldwide.
đź’š Our mission: help our retailers build thriving businesses, live more fulfilling lives and create experiences that people love.
Engineering @ Vend:
- We build new features on top of a modern stack, consisting of web apps (in a mix of Angular & React) communicating through APIs to Go services, backed by databases and Kafka topics, all deployed using Docker in a continuous delivery cycle to AWS. We deploy changes to production every 7 minutes, on average.
- We don’t follow rigid Scrum or Kanban, but we do work in an agile, iterative way, and try to continuously improve and implement what works for us. We measure outcomes for our stakeholders, not timesheets or Jira ticket counts.
- Performance at Vend is more than raw output: it includes engagement, satisfaction, and retention. We value output, and we also value well-rounded humans who work as a great team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Product Delivery: You’re ultimately responsible for the output of engineering teams in your group, and the value they deliver to our retailers. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to solve problems that might block teams from shipping. You’ll ensure that we have the right team structure and size to deliver on demands from the business, and that the roadmap is realistic based on the team size we have.
- People Management: You’re responsible for the performance of your engineering teams. You’ll work with Lead Engineers to understand individual and group performance, then follow up with action to make sure people are working at their best. You’ll make sure that pay reviews are fair and equitable, and reward great performance. You’ll ensure everyone has a growth plan that suits them, and are making progress on that plan. You’ll maintain a diverse hiring pipeline and participate in hiring process with Lead Engineers.
- Process & Product Improvement: You’ll ensure that the teams are using processes that result in great output. You’ll ensure that technologies and platforms are appropriate, and solve the problems at hand, while also future-proofing and catering for forecasted scale. You’ll collaborate closely with Product and Design leadership, the wider Vend business, and our retailers to make sure that our engineering process works well in the wider scheme of things.
- Strategy & Planning: You’ll provide input and feedback to the leadership & exec teams, and effectively lobby for change when it’s required. You’ll manage the budget & headcount for the Product Engineering organisation.
What you need to bring:
- Experience leading other leaders in a software engineering organisation.
- People management: experience in hiring, performance management, and growth.
- Technical experience in software product engineering.
Why do you want to work at Vend?
- We will provide you with opportunities to develop your career
- You can help build an amazing product in a company big enough for growth but lean enough to make a genuine impact
- You will be offered a competitive salary
Plus, we have a range of benefits that’ll keep you happy, healthy and (not) hungry:
- Secure, full-time carpark
- Dog-friendly environment
- Free fresh fruits, snacks and drinks (and cake for your birthday!)
- Paid leave and assistance for new parents
- Travel insurance for you and your family
- Vend Share Options scheme
- Four weeks annual leave + extra day over the Christmas holidays
Where to from here?
Obviously, we’re looking to ensure it’s a solid fit from both sides: we want you to step into a role you love, and we want to offer you a place you’re proud to come to every day. For a glimpse into our world, feel free to check out our Instagram here.
