The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading University, with a turnover of $1.1bn, including research revenue of over $200m generated across eight diverse faculties and two research institutes. With over 6,000 staff and 42,000 students, the University of Auckland is one of New Zealand’s most significant and complex entities, spread across five campuses, encompassing $2bn assets and a capital works programme of $1bn over the next ten years.

As CFO you will provide financial leadership across the entire organisation, aligning business and finance strategy to support the development and delivery of the University’s long-term strategic objectives.  The position has recently been re-scoped to have a broader remit, facilitating the continued transformation of the finance function to a high value, business partnering service, enabling this University’s continued success and sustainability.

Primary responsibilities of the role include the financial and risk management operations of the University, the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems, external and internal financial reporting, treasury and strategic procurement functions, and the recently established Shared Transaction Centre. The CFO also provides direction for the University’s supporting finance systems.

As a member of the University Senior Leadership Team, you will have the experience and interpersonal credibility to engage and contribute strategically at the highest levels of the University. Success will be enabled by your track record of sound financial leadership in large, complex organisations. Experience of delivering a shared services model will be advantageous; experience in a tertiary environment is not essential.  More important is the demonstration of a leadership approach and management skills that will inspire confidence and ensure success while continually developing this high performing unit of approximately 70FTE staff. Your proactive, action oriented, mature and professional approach will enhance your ability to influence and build credibility with customers, stakeholders and the professional community.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual seeking to continue their leadership career and make a tangible difference to our challenging and rewarding environment at the University of Auckland.
