As the principal transport advisor to the government, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) provides policy advice and support to Ministers to improve the performance of New Zealand’s transport system and related Crown entities such as the Civil Aviation Authority and New Zealand Transport Agency. They also manage the government’s investment into transport, develop legislation and represent New Zealand’s international interest in maritime and aviation affairs.
Recent organisational changes have resulted in the creation of a Chief Financial Officer position within the newly formed Corporate Services group. As head of finance for the Ministry and reporting to the DCE Corporate Services, you will work very closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team, acting as their primary adviser on departmental and non department financial matters, including oversight of the National Land Transport Fund and Vote.
Coming from a public-sector background, you will have a track record of providing expert financial advice to executive leadership teams. You will understand and appreciate the importance of quality working relationships and will be comfortable holding the Ministry’s primary relationship with Treasury and Audit New Zealand. As well as being an expert financial advisor, you will be a hands-on practitioner as this role is responsible for running of the Ministry’s finance function, including all systems, processes, policies, and the leadership of a small, tight-knit team.
