  • Stimulating & Multifaceted Leadership Role
  • Lifestyle Location in the Heart of South Canterbury
  • Drive the Success of a Diverse Irrigation & Water Management Company

Situated in Pleasant Point near Timaru, Opuha Water Limited (OWL) is responsible for the strategic and operational management of an essential irrigation scheme that covers 16,000ha of South Canterbury, adding hundreds of millions of dollars to the regional economy.

The scheme consists of the Opuha Dam and three sub-schemes (Levels Plain, Kakahu and Totara Valley) and has approx. 230 shareholder-customers. Whilst principally used for irrigation, the dam also includes a 7MW hydro station (operated and maintained under contract by Trustpower) which generates electricity and provides significant additional revenue for the organisation. The scheme also supplements commercial and domestic water for the Timaru District Council.

Reporting to a Board of 5 shareholder and 2 independent directors, the CEO will provide dedicated and motivational leadership to a core team of 9. You will work closely with a number of key consultants and contractors to ensure the successful performance of OWL and the reliable delivery of sustainable irrigation water. Responsibilities are broad and incorporate stakeholder, environmental, engineering, asset, health & safety and financial management, in line with proactively developing the business within an evolving regulatory landscape. The technical capability to manage long term assets combined with an empathy for the environment and people in the Region is vital.

Applicants will be commercially astute and possess a proven track record of performance in a CEO/senior leadership role - ideally with an engineering related background. Strong relationship management, communication and leadership skills are essential. The ability to add sustainable value to your farmer shareholders and develop enduring partnerships to benefit and grow the business will also be the key to your success. This is an autonomous role in a respected company where change and improvement are embraced.
