Work type:

  • Lead a new vision for regional vocational education

Whitireia and WelTec provide vocational education and training to over 12,000 students across the wider Wellington region and from its Auckland campus. They have a strong record for educational achievement, placing first among the ITP sector for course and qualification completions, student retention, progressing to higher levels of study.

Both institutes have a long and proud history of delivering hands-on vocational education and training that transforms lives and communities. Although separate institutes, they are intrinsically connected, sharing a governing body, CEO, management team and Academic Board.

The reform of the vocational education and training sector will create exciting possibilities for WelTec and Whitireia. From 1 April 2020, the two institutes will become part of the new NZ Institute of Skills and Technology and have an even stronger regional focus.

You will lead the combined organisations during a time of change and refocus. You will work with students, iwi, communities, industry and staff to develop and deliver a new vision for vocational education for the Wellington region. You’ll be visionary, purposeful, connected to the community and ambitious for your team and students. Winning hearts and minds and being clearheaded during times of uncertainty will be among your strengths, along with a drive for quality and innovation. Financially astute and strategically agile, you will know how to balance quality assurance with market opportunity.

We are searching for an inspirational leader who can engage actively with their communities and deliver quality, relevant learning to improve the lives of Wellingtonians.
