- Diverse and Engaged Community
- Thriving North Canterbury Region
With a vision of “Hurunui is a contented and prosperous community”, Hurunui District Council provides services to a diverse North Canterbury Community from its base in Amberley, 30 minutes north of Christchurch. The district is predominantly rural covering 864,640ha, and home to 13,107 people. The Council employs 181 FTE’s, including 76 at the award winning Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, and has a total operating revenue of $49 million.
The key focus for the Chief Executive will be to continue building on the strong community relationships and service culture within the organisation, and to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives which will provide a strong base for the Hurunui communities. With an emphasis on effective delivery of capital projects and infrastructure going forward, there is continued focus on building financial capacity. Prudent financial management over a long period of time has held the council in good stead.
This is a highly attractive opportunity for experienced leaders, and for high-potential candidates with a proven track record, ready for the challenge of Chief Executive leadership. Successful candidates may have experience as an executive in local government or be operating at a similar level within the private sector. Candidates will possess a skill set that demonstrates commercial and financial acumen, strategic leadership, proven success in planning and implementation, as well as strong relationship management and influencing skills.
This role requires a person who can demonstrate a commitment to the district and continue to act in the best interests of the Council and their people, with the well-being of the communities at the heart of any future work programmes.
