Environment Canterbury is leading the way in how regional governance is delivered in one of New Zealand's largest, most diverse and naturally stunning regions, using a citizen and customer-centred approach toward facilitating sustainable development. The organisation maintains strong relationships with central government, Ngāi Tahu, territorial authorities, non-government organisations, industry bodies and the wider public in order to progress a wide range of programmes and enable continuous information sharing and collaboration.
You will lead a highly skilled executive team (with a total team of 650) that is committed to managing the region’s resources and improving the social, environmental, cultural, economic and environmental well-being of our communities. Areas of focus will include sustainable development balanced with environmental impacts, water, biodiversity and biosecurity, relationship development, climate change, a delivery-based culture, and support of the elected Council.
Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of success as a CEO or in a senior leadership role, ideally from within local/regional government or the public sector. You will have an ability to deliver sustainable results in a complex environment, you will have commercial and strategic capability, and you will have the capacity to be a trusted advisor to elected Councillors as you will have a full understanding of the democratic function and processes. You will present with an authentic and engaging leadership style, and be able to collaborate with stakeholders and enhance relationships.
This role represents a significant leadership opportunity to shape the region for years to come.
