Mt Ruapehu, home of the Whakapapa and Turoa Ski Areas is New Zealand’s largest winter playground.  Whakapapa features the longest operating season and some of the best natural terrain in New Zealand.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd (RAL), which owns and operates the assets of the two ski areas, occupies a unique place on an iconic piece of New Zealand’s topography - a 2800m volcano in a UNESCO Dual World Heritage Area, the Tongariro National Park.  A recent extensive capital works programme, including the construction of the new gondola, has assisted in leveraging the growth in summer visitors to the Tongariro National Park. 

The CEO will focus on continuing the development of the business into a destination for both domestic and international visitors across all seasons, whilst ensuring diversification of revenue streams.  Partnering with key stakeholders including iwi, the Crown, local authorities and investors is key to delivering on the development potential for the business whilst ensuring environmental sustainability.  Guardianship of the cultural, historical and environmental values of the park is critical whilst meeting the commercial goals of RAL.

Consistently delivering and continuing to develop a world-class, exhilarating customer experience in a weather dependent and capital intensive business is challenging.  The CEO will be supported by an experienced senior management team, and an enthusiastic and committed Board. They will have the opportunity to display their ability to deliver on the potential of a very special setting.

  • Senior leadership experience within the tourism, supply chain, sport, travel or similar sectors.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, with a strong customer centric focus.
