  • Plan and create meals, budget, train volunteers and lead a team
  • Lifestyle role on Great Barrier Island

Enjoy working in a Christian community as a live-in Catering Manager.  The kitchen/dining is the heart of the community with visitors and residents coming together, so you’ll create a welcoming environment.  Manage this commercial kitchen producing quality food en masse for 20 - 160 people depending on guest numbers.  You’ll plan meals, order food, budget, ensure food safety, train volunteers, generally organise the kitchen and manage the team.

You’ll work an eight-hour day and most days prepare morning tea and lunch, giving you time for planning.  On other days you’ll manage dinner.  You’ll lead a Cook, several volunteers and have rostered visitor assistance.  You’ll cook varied, delicious and nutritious meals while catering for allergies and unique needs, all within budget.

Either an experienced cook or qualified chef, likely from a camp, resort or hotel background you have solid catering experience.  You’re used to cooking for groups and delivering one meal for most, with some alternatives for dietary requirements.  You’re able to maintain the quality of food and provide variety to keep meals interesting for long-staying guests.  Numbers-literate you can draw up and stay within budgets.  You can run an organized, tidy and clean kitchen and manage the team to do the same.  Naturally you have a welcoming attitude and real sense of hospitality to create comradery around meal times.

Orama Oasis is a dynamic, diverse Christian community based on Great Barrier Island with a vibrant history of restoring and equipping people for life’s journey. Every year more than 2500 visitors come to enjoy a holiday adventure, a spiritual retreat or a training school at Orama.  We hold the tension of diversity amidst a disposition to love - God, each other, our neighbours - all who come to our door.  We are committed to living sustainably and in harmony with each other, the earth and the natural environment and minimising the impact we make.

So, if you feel the calling to be an integral member of a Christian community, contributing your great food and presence, let’s talk!
