  • Exciting opportunity to work for this high-profile Arts Festival
  • Rare opportunity for an inspiring artistic leader with vision and drive

Working with the Board and Chief Executive, this is a rare opportunity for an inspiring artistic leader with vision and drive.

The Auckland Arts Festival has been in its current incarnation since 2003, and provides Aucklanders and visitors with a programme that crosses art forms and has diversity at its heart. Distinctly Auckland in style, the Festival’s reach is broad and is widely acclaimed in featuring unique New Zealand and international content across theatre, dance, music and visual arts.

As Artistic Director you will contribute to the future development and success of this Festival, providing artistic leadership and programme planning. This includes the development of the artistic strategy for each festival, in line with the overall strategic and business plan. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and staff to ensure budget development and programme viability, including risk management, external relations, and assisting with the development of the Festival brand and marketing materials, and supporting funding/sponsorship activity.

Candidates must be experienced arts programmers with extensive relevant international networks, an in-depth understanding of the arts industry and a commitment to the diverse communities that make Auckland unique. Strong leadership and relationship skills are essential, as is a strong track record in audience development. Experience and commitment to a highly collaborative team model in developing content and delivery is also vital.

It is envisaged the appointee will be in place by the end of 2019 to observe the 2020 Festival and to lead programming for 2021 and beyond.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae outlining skills and experience in relation to the position description.
