Work type:

Whanganui & Partners (WAP) is situated in beautiful Whanganui District known for its vibrant arts, excellent schools, close commuter links to other centres and a growing business sector. Led by a supportive Board, a Chief Executive who formerly headed up Crop & Food Research, a strategy calling for Agri-business investment, and with secured PGF funding, these are the right ingredients and right time for a dynamic and impactful new Agri-business arm of WAP.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this role is called a ‘Strategic Lead’. What this means is that the right candidate will be a leader with energy and passion for the opportunity and can grow agri-business from small beginnings to a thriving economy.  It will suit a person with excellent communications, business and political acumen, and the ability to both develop and drive strategic direction. The person will become ingrained in the community and economy and be successful in pulling together a coalition of support for the future of agri-business.

This role clearly seeks a ‘doer’ not simply a talker or thinker. The ideal background might be in a farm consultancy with strong strategic and business development acumen, from a company focussed around primary products, or possibly agricultural research, agri-technology or farming. While many sectors might be suitable it does need that ingrained knowledge of New Zealand agriculture and value-added opportunities around this industry. It will not suit a person without this agricultural background.
