What does Brexit mean for the Kiwi OE?

The BNZBA is delighted to launch a new initiative aimed specifically at Individual members or employees of Business members who are under 35 and have an interest in the future business relationship between the UK and New Zealand.

For its first event we are focusing on the Kiwi phenomenon of Overseas Experience (OE) that it is so popular that it is seen by some to be a ‘rite of passage’ for young Kiwi professionals, academics and entrepreneurs.  The UK is a particularly appealing OE destination given its substantial economic and business activity, its proximity to other travel destinations and its familiarity in terms of language and culture.

As we wait to see how Brexit will play out, there appears to be both a continued interest from Kiwis to do their OE in the UK and an uncertainty as to how Brexit may impact that experience. UK PM Theresa May once said "Brexit means Brexit" but what does Brexit mean for the Kiwi OE?

To help answer this and other questions, the BNZBA's Young Professionals Initiative and the British High Commission’s Successor Generation Initiative are delighted to co-host a panel discussion featuring

  • Laura Clarke, British High Commissioner to New Zealand
  • The Rt Hon Sir Lockwood Smith, former New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK and former Speaker of the House of Representatives
  • Minta Smith of Home Recruitment and Matthew Holton of Peloton Property, both recently returned Kiwi's from their UK OE

Please note that only Individual members of the BNZBA and employees of Business members of the BNZBA that are aged between 18 and 35 can register for this event. If you are interested in becoming a member of the BNZBA then email us at info@bnzba.co.nz
