THOMAS OLIVER & LOUIS BAKER - LONDON SHOW 6 AUGUST
Thomas Oliver and Louis Baker to play a double bill show at the Bedroom Bar, London on Wednesday 6th August.
This will be Thomas Oliver’s debut show in London and Louis Baker returns to the UK after playing shows at Field Days Festival and Sonar, Barcelona in June.
The singer-songwriter friends who have burgeoning solo careers are taking this opportunity to play a double bill show before their duo performance at the Edinburgh Festival and solo stages at Sziget Festival, Budapest.
Thomas is internationally recognised as one of the leading players of the Weissenborn lap-steel guitar and a multi-talented guitarist, song writer and singer. In 2013 Oliver released the first full-length, all instrumental, all Weissenborn album, titled “Beneath The Weissenborn”. The album debuted at #6 in the NZ charts, received 5* reviews and sold out shows across the nation.
He joins Leo Kotke, Ry Cooder and Michael Hedges as someone who has made buying a guitar album a must – ***** Stuff.co.nz
With a voice producing shades of Motown-era soul, Louis Baker’s endearingly honest lyrics, mesmerizing melodies and vocal ability leaves no question as to why international media have touted this native New Zealander as one to watch. After being chosen to attend the Red Bull Music Academy in New York in the 2013 Baker spent the summer in London playing a series of shows and recording his debut EP with UK producer Andy Lovegrove (Breaks Co-Op, Super Grass). He independently released his EP in New Zealand earlier this year which charted at #3 on the NZ Charts and #1 on iTunes singer/songwriter.
“It is absolutely ridiculous how good this dude’s voice is, like it’s actually annoying how someone can be so skilled; like seriously, how can anyone have a voice this good? More to the point, how can anyone have a voice this timeless and soulful in 2014 when no one gives a shit about skill and practise anymore?" Review 'Bearded Magazine' – Field Day
On Stage – 8.30pm
