Tā Moko - Modern Māori Warriors

Tā Moko - Modern Māori Warriors
Photographic Exhibition, by lens based artist and professional photographer, Héloïse Bergman, from Wellington. The exhibition explores and documents the modern Māori who are choosing to embrace their traditional, historic identity through the wearing of facial moko (moko kauae and moko kanohi). It is a response to recent international photographic depiction of tā moko as gang related, or faux tā moko, stamped on as part of cultural demonstrations of an 'exotic other'. Tā Moko - Modern Māori Warriors is exhibited in London as part of London Photomonth, in conjunction with Frieze Art Fair and the RWC.
