Shotgun Studios is proud to present New Zealand born Isaac Trebilco's new show 'Whanaungatanga' on Friday 7th April.
Issac is presenting paintings and imagery that explores Māori culture; particularly tā moko and its impact on contemporary New Zealand cultural identity. He has worked with two source photographs taken between 1870 and 1880 by Samuel Carnell.
Isaac's distinctive work is created by combining stencils with traditional mediums like oil and water colour. As well as using stream of consciousness patterns that weave together and abstract Māori design, principally the swirling koru pattern is used as a central recurring theme.
Isaac is using these works to pay respect and honour the shared ancestors of Aotearoa.
The night will also feature a special performance by the Ngāti Rānana London Māori Club, music, bar and a few extras that we are keeping up our sleeve for now.
Look forward to welcoming you here on the 7th for what will no doubt be a very special evening.
The show will be open Wed - Friday evenings and 11-5 Saturdays until the 22nd April.
