We are honoured to welcome Tyler Brûlé from the Monocle Magazine to speak to our members and guests. Tyler will be speaking about branding Japan ahead of the country's hosting of the 2020 Olympic Games. About the Speaker: Tyler Brûlé Editor in chief, Monocle Founder and chairman, Winkreative Born in Canada and based in the UK, Tyler Brûlé began his career as a reporter for the BBC, before turning to print journalism where he wrote for The Guardian, Stern, The Sunday Times and Vanity Fair. In 1996 Brûlé launched Wallpaper*, a title that became a publishing success, going on to sell in over 50 countries. The magazine won numerous awards for its design, international relevance and use of typography, and in 2001 Brûlé became the youngest ever recipient of the British Society of Magazine Editors Lifetime Achievement Award. In May 2002 Brûlé sold his stake in Wallpaper* to focus on developing Winkreative, the full-service branding and design agency he set up in 1998.The agency is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swiss parent company Winkorp AG, which Brûlé founded in 2002. The award-winning business is distinguished by its international focus, editorial authority and global reach. In February 2007, Brûlé launched Monocle, the second ground-breaking publication of his career. It is an international briefing on current affairs, business, culture and design. Published 10 times a year, Monocle is a global media brand that combines print, web, retail and broadcast components. Distributed in over 65 markets, Monocle’s reach includes a network of over thirty correspondents, seven bureaux and an expanding mix of video and audio programming – as well as two seasonal newspapers per year. At the same time, Monocle has created a unique retail model with freestanding shops in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York and Toronto – along with an e-commerce site on monocle.com.
