Navigating the Business Legal Landscape in Emerging Markets
All are welcome to a reception and panel discussion re: ASEAN and Sub-Saharan Africa legal systems for business. Presented by Consilium Law Corporation (CLC).
Both are emerging markets, but are the legal systems in ASEAN similar to those in Sub-Saharan Africa? ASEAN continues to grow with inbound foreign direct investment representing 8% of the world total, according to UNCTAD, and Sub-Saharan Africa has one of the highest economic growth rates in the world with the World Bank expecting foreign direct investment to reach $54 billion by 2015 – up from $7 billion in 2000. CLC lawyers will provide a comparison on aspects relevant to business such as enforceability of laws and contracts, restrictions on foreign ownership issues, the legality of nominees, and regional trade and investment agreements. The Panel will also discuss how Singapore is positioned to be a hub for business into the two regions, and on the growth of arbitration and mediation as a form of dispute resolution in emerging markets in both ASEAN and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Lisa Oake, Head of Oake Media and former host of CNBC Squawk Box.
This event is in partnership with CanCham, EuroCham, AmCham, Irish Chamber and the Italian Chamber of Commerce.
