Kiwi electro-pop and R&B favourite Kimbra is playing at Houston's Day for Night Festival 2017.
Day for Night is a current snapshot of popular music as well as a showcase for trailblazers who continue to cross over from the fringes to become influencers. Eschewing the idea of musical genres, Day for Night focuses instead on acts that specialize in an inventive and highly visual approach to performing.
New Zealand singer Kimbra Lee Johnson, known as Kimbra, mixes pop with classic R&B, jazz and rock musical elements. Her debut album, Vows, released in 2011. Vows reached the top 5 in New Zealand and Australia and debuted at No. 14 on the US Billboard charts. Kimbra is featured in the 2012 multi-platinum single “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye.
In February 2013, Kimbra and Gotye won the “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” awards for “Somebody That I Used to Know.” This achievement made her only the third New Zealand singer to win a Grammy Award. Kimbra’s second studio album, The Golden Echo, released on August 2014 to positive critical reception.
Kimbra is embarking on a further North American tour in 2018 to promote the release of her new album, Primal Heart, coming January 19 2018.
