Kapa Haka Tale

Kapa Haka Tale
Kapa Haka Tale is a brand new theatre performance from the Corey Baker Dance, set to premiere in Autumn 2015, before a UK tour. Kapa Haka Tale celebrates the rich history of the Kapa Haka dance form, grounding it in the enchanting, immersive narrative of Hinemoa and Tutanekai, the Māori folk and love story. At the heart of every culture is a dance- at the heart of every dance is a story. Transcending the barriers of language, dance is a fluid form of expression that springs from the core of human experience. Transporting spectators to a magical and atmospheric world, Kapa Haka Tale captivates audiences through powerful and mesmerising choreography, ethereal digital creatures, and an awe-inspiring set, rich with colour, nature and beautiful tribal Māori art. Featuring both Māori and contemporary dancers, Corey Baker Dance’s bright expressive movements will be brought into dynamic union with the music of a highly acclaimed Māori composer, Tiki Taane, for an hour of spellbinding sensory engagement. Weaving the shared principles that unite these dance forms, cultures and narratives, Kapa Haka Tale re-envisions the roots of Māori legend for a intimate, connective audience experience.
