"Beneath the Black" screening

"Beneath the Black" screening

Ahead of the All Blacks vs England test at Twickenham this November, Kea New Zealand invites you to join us for a screening of 'Beneath the Black : A Journey Through New Zealand Rugby'. The screening will be followed by a fireside chat with special guests SKY Sports Rugby UK Presenter - and Auckland Grammar Old Boy - James Gemmell '94 and Dr. Farah Palmer ONZM.

New Zealanders James and colleague Tim Dale travelled to New Zealand ahead of the 2017 Lions Tour, with the goal of answering the question, what makes the All Blacks so good? Through the eyes of some of New Zealand’s most iconic rugby figures, this documentary explores the place that rugby holds in the country’s history, culture and way of life.

Join us for an evening of networking and inspiring conversation hosted within the Fine Rooms of the Royal Academy. James and Dr Palmer will discuss highlights in their careers, and explore the role the sport plays in areas of identity, culture, leadership, community spirit, women in sport, and our place in the Pacific.

Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a private viewing of Oceania - an exhibition which presents one of the largest collections of traditional and contemporary Māori, Polynesian and Melanesian art ever to be displayed in the United Kingdom.
