Join Professor John Fraser, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and Professor Steven Dakin, Head of the School of Optometry and Vision Science, for an evening reception at the Wellcome Collection.
Guest speaker Professor Dakin will talk about the challenges and opportunities of moving research from the United Kingdom to New Zealand. One of only two visual neuroscientists in New Zealand, Professor Dakin comes to the University from the Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, where he was Professor of Visual Psychophysics. He will begin a dialogue comparing his extensive research experiences in the United Kingdom with the University of Auckland research environment, the funding landscape in New Zealand, and the challenges and benefits of the clinical research environment and smaller community of scientists.
This is a great opportunity to meet or reconnect with fellow UK-based medical alumni and friends, and to hear an update on a number of exciting new developments coming up at the Faculty.
