We regret to advise that in line with Australian, New Zealand and British Government policies and social distancing guidance, public Anzac Day services in London will unfortunately not take place on Saturday 25 April 2020.
This decision has not been made lightly, and has taken into consideration a number of key factors, primarily concerns about the welfare of all visitors who would travel to the Anzac Day services, as well as the view of our host nation regarding large gatherings, the safety of guests, the impact on health systems and the welfare of staff, contractors and security.
As two nations standing together, we recognise the importance of commemorating Anzac Day. On 25 April this year we encourage all Australians and New Zealanders to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of the scores of courageous Australians and New Zealanders who have died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Whilst the formerly planned public services will not take place, we are now looking at other ways to acknowledge all Anzacs on the 25th of April while adhering to the difficult circumstances we are all now facing.
Our thoughts are with all of our UK based Australian and New Zealand communities in these challenging and unprecedented times.
H.E. Hon George Brandis, Australian High Commissioner to the UK and H.E. Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK
