ANZAC DAY 2016  Centenary of the Western Front New York City

Australians and New Zealanders commemorate Anzac Day on 25 April to recognise the sacrifices of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and servicewomen: those who not only defend their country but uphold their nations’ firmly held commitment to peace and security. In 2016 we mark the 100th anniversary of the Western Front.

 This year marks the centenary of the first Anzac Day services held in Australia and New Zealand to commemorate the Gallipoli campaign. In 1916, after the Gallipoli campaign, Anzacs arrived on the Western Front where they suffered great losses. The Western Front remains a place of special significance to many Australians and New Zealanders.

In 2016 the Australian and New Zealand Consuls-General in New York will co-host two public commemorative services:

 DAWN SERVICE

Date:   Monday, 25 April

Time:   05:45am to 06:15am (guests should arrive by 05:30am)

Location:   Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Plaza

                    55 Water Street, New York City

Dress (military): Service dress or equivalent with medals

Dress (civilian):   Respectful attire. Please come prepared in case of cold or inclement weather

RSVP:  Not required (public attendance welcomed)

 

COMMEMORATIVE SUNDAY SERVICE

Date:  Sunday, 24 April

Time:  10:30am to midday

Location:  ANZAC Memorial Garden

Level 7, British Empire Building, Rockefeller Center

620 Fifth Avenue, New York City (entry on south side of West 50th Street)

Entry:  Photo identification is required as a condition of entry. Bags may be searched

Dress (military):    Service dress or equivalent with medals

Dress (civilian):  Respectful attire. Please come prepared in case of cold or inclement                                                                  weather

RSVP: Required by ballot* (click here to enter the ballot)

* Owing to extremely limited capacity, available seats will be allocated to the public via a ballot system with a maximum of two (2) passes for each successful ballot. Passes will be confirmed in the week of 18 April. We apologise in advance to those who miss out and suggest attendance at the Dawn Service (above) which is the main ANZAC Day commemoration service where capacity is not limited.
