What'll I Do?
Alaudiae perform a new programme of varied vocal music for the Classical Transmission concert series at Antenna Studios in Crystal Palace with special musical friends and guests:
Elspeth Wilkes - piano
Marcus Penrose - double bass
Jamie Akers - guitar-like things
Davide Pasqualini - percussion
London based Vocal Trio Alaudiae met at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, and formed subsequently while developing their careers in opera with companies including The Royal Opera, English National Opera and Welsh National Opera among others. Alaudiae (descending from the Latin for lark) is three fifths kiwi, with sopranos Carleen Ebbs and Claire Egan hailing from Hawkes Bay and Gisborne respectively, and mezzo Miranda Westcott is from Devon, England with NZ grandfather from Whanganui.
As trained singers, Alaudiae are maintaining their classical roots but blur the usual boundaries and conventions of a classical music aesthetic, to directly celebrate song. Alaudiae create bespoke and thematic programmes, performing vocal music from unaccompanied chant, to French melodie, to unexpected arrangements of modern day hits with instrumentalists, and currently are particularly enjoying baroque and folk music.
