Registrations for the Hubbards Head2Head Walk 2016 are now open.
- 24-hour 125km relay walk around the Manukau Harbour
- Fundraising for the OKE Charity, to implement the OKE Growing A Future initiative into Auckland schools
- ‘Fun and Social’ is the philosophy behind this one-of-a-kind fundraiser
Auckland’s first and only 24 hour charity walk, the Hubbards Head2Head Walk, will see a record number of people take on the 125km relay around the Manukau Harbour on the weekend of 12th and 13th November in support of the OKE Charity.
The course is 125km in length and is designed to be tackled by teams of 5 in a relay format. Each team member walks one of the five legs of 25km. The Hubbards Head2Head walk starts in Orua Bay atop Awhitu Peninsula on the south side of the Manukau Heads and finishes 24 hours and 125km later at Huia in the Waitakere Ranges.
In contrast to similar charity walks, the Hubbards Head2Head has been created to enable the OKE Charity to help primary schools in local communities to grow their own fruit and vegetables. In 2015, the charity launched the “Growing A Future” project at Papatoetoe West School, helping them to build an amazing fruit and vegetable garden and providing all the sustainable resources to help it thrive. Funds from the 2016 Hubbards Head2Head Walk will enable OKE to not only get more schools in Papatoetoe growing, but a percentage of funds raised will help support community gardens along the route of the walk.
Paul Dickson, founder of the OKE Charity says the event provides an opportunity for people from across Auckland to do their bit and take part in a fundraiser that is giving back where it matters most – in their own community. “Hubbards Head2Head is a big walk making a big difference and is the annual fundraiser for the OKE Charity. The impact that 24 hours of effort can have on the lives of people in your school and community is immeasurable.”
“Once again we have Hubbards on board as our principal sponsor, a local organisation who are equally dedicated to making a difference in our community.”
Cost: $250 per team with each team set a fundraising target of $1,000
