It is the channel through which the New Zealand Government promotes its international agenda and deals with other countries and organisations. New Zealand’s political objectives advanced by the Embassy in Manila include promoting foreign policy cooperation with the Philippines Government — strengthening linkages both bilaterally and between New Zealand and the wider Asian region. The Embassy also fosters cultural and people-to-people links between New Zealand and the Philippines. The Embassy works to enhance New Zealand’s economic interests in the Philippines. It also maintains effective liaison with the Philippine Government on economic issues such as APEC and implementing the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement. Negotiating bilateral trade access is an important part of the Embassy’s work, as the Philippines is one of New Zealand’s top 20 most important goods export markets.
