ANZ opened its first representative office in Tokyo in 1969. Following acquisition of a full banking licence in 1984, the Tokyo office was upgraded to a branch. In 1990, ANZ became the first Australian bank to open a branch in Osaka.

Both the Tokyo and Osaka branches offer deposits, fixed and at call, in USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, NZD and Toshin (Managed Fund) from the best of breed asset managers. Australian and New Zealand remittances/money transfers in any currency are also available.
Trade finance services, contract guarantees such as bid, performance and advance payment bonds in relation to project business, working capital lines, term and revolving loans in major currencies are available for corporate clients who also have access to investment banking services particularly in respect of structured and syndicated financing and Japan Bank for International Cooperation / NEXI supported transactions.
A comprehensive treasury service is available which includes foreign exchange dealing in the spot, forward, swap and inter-bank markets, as well as money market activities, in major currencies.
