NZ - UK LINK FOUNDATION PROGRAMME & ADMINISTRATION SECRETARY (part time)

The NZ – UK Link Foundation, (Link), originally the Waitangi Foundation, was set up in 1990 to create and promote educational and related exchanges between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. (see www.nzuklinkfoundation.org). Link is a registered charity, based at the New Zealand High Commission in London and run by a Board of Trustees. Link is now seeking a part time Programme & Administration Secretary.

The Role
The Programme & Administration Secretary (PAS) work covers two areas.
1. Running various projects on behalf of the Board, (e.g. There is currently a programme of visiting professors from NZ, sponsored by Link, who undertake a three month lecture and research tour to the UK).
2. Acting as secretary to the Board (meeting quarterly) and its sub-committees and managing the ongoing administration of Link in London, including holding the records of the Foundation.

The work will be varied both in its nature and time requirements and will require a flexible approach in response to fluctuating activity levels.

The PAS is ultimately accountable to the Chairman, (currently Richard Fell, to be succeeded by Sir Graeme Davies from July 2011), but will work on a day to day basis with other Trustees and members of any sub-committees set up by the Board.

Person Specification

The PAS must:

  • be a practical, efficient, experienced and pro-active administrator;
  • have a commercial approach and a record of monitoring costs and schedules;
  • be a good oral and written communicator;
  • be able to engage positively with people at all levels and capable of being a good ambassador and representative for Link.

Ideally candidates should also have:

  • experience of working for senior level voluntary committees;
  • an understanding of the different working and cultures of organisations with whom Link typically interact e.g. universities, media, and government bodies;
  • some experience of fund raising;
  • links with, or demonstrable interest in, New Zealand.

Process etc.

The PAS will be engaged on a consulting or self employed contract. Hours required although irregular, should average 12 a week, and include occasional ‘out of hours’ and weekends. The Board operates from New Zealand House in Central London, but the majority of the work can be done from any convenient London or South-East base.

The contract will initially be for a 12 month period, but could well become long term.

The anticipated fee of £14,000 a year, including VAT if applicable, will be paid monthly, Additionally, reasonable expenses and any extra hours, agreed in advance with the Link Chairman or Treasurer, will be charged each month.
