Recent events such as “Climategate” have gone some way to undermine public perception of the reality of Climate Change.
Arup's in-house climate scientist Jake Hacker presented an update on recent events and discussed the current scientific consensus.

Jake Hacker is a climate change scientist based in the Arup London office. His specialist area is the application of quantitative tools to develop understanding of climate change impacts on the built environment and adaptation strategies. He has worked on design projects ranging in scale from individual buildings to city masterplanning, both in the UK and internationally. He has also led and contributed to a number of policy research initiatives in this area, leading to reports for: the UK Department of Trade and Industry, the Greater London Authority, the Three Regions Climate Change Group, and the London Climate Change Partnership. He has actively contributed to academic research programmes on climate change impacts and adaptation, including current EPSRC funded research on urban heat island effects in London and the use of probabilistic climate change scenarios (UKCIP08). Prior to joining Arup, Jake worked at Cambridge University, where he completed his PhD in Environmental Fluid Dynamics. He has also worked at the Met Office Hadley Centre.
