SpotQuake NZ phone app launches

Thursday, 12 January 2012 (All day)

A brand new Android mobile phone app has just been released by SpotQuake NZ.

It allows Android phone users to receive notifications to their phone after there has been an earthquake or tremor in locations you have specified in New Zealand. You can receive notifications for all tremors in New Zealand or you can filter by location, magnitude and depth. So, for instance, you can specify to receive alerts for the places that relatives or friends live, so that next time there is a tremor where they live you can get in contact and check if they are ok and give them a bit of support.

The app costs $2NZ and all money is being donated to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
The app is available in the Android Market:  https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ivnzapps.spotquake
You can read more about the app on the blog:  http://spotquake.blogspot.com/

NOTE: This app is not a warning system or a real-time system. Notifications may arrive tens of minutes after tremors occur.
