New Zealand health technology sector launches global talent attraction project

A collaborative pilot project being run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, working with Immigration New Zealand, the Medical Technology Association of New Zealand and Kea New Zealand, has been launched in a bid to source over 200 appropriately skilled employees for roles in the health and medical technologies sector across New Zealand.

As identified in the 2011 Medical Technology Industry Blueprint, one of the key constraints to growth for health companies in New Zealand is lack of access to appropriately skilled talent.  This is a critical issue for health technology companies of all sizes, including larger companies such as Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Orion Health, Atlantis Healthcare and Douglas Pharmaceuticals who need a greater number of skilled employees, and are all part of the pilot project. Overall the pilot is reaching across 13 health technology companies, who export globally.

This is the first time a collaborative industry-wide approach has been taken to create a pool of talent for New Zealand health technology companies. The project launch follows Kea New Zealand’s recently published online survey Every Kiwi Counts 2011, which found that a significant number of overseas Kiwis are currently looking for a job in New Zealand either for themselves or someone they know. In fact, 27% of respondents who filled in the on-line survey say they are keeping a close eye on the job market at home.

If you or someone you know is interested in working in the New Zealand health technology sector, then you can view the opportunities at www.keajobs.com and view additional information at Immigration New Zealand’s New Zealand Now website here.
