Kea Australia is a hub for Kiwis and friends of New Zealand based in Australia. We have active groups in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Launched in early 2004, Kea Australia runs and supports a range of business, sport and social networking events, including the popular NZ Short Film Festival, degustation dinners with NZ chefs and winemakers, business lunches with high profile New Zealanders, Waitangi Day celebrations, and much more.

Bev Booker BBus (UTS), FCIS, FAICD, Company Directors Advanced Diploma

Bev has broad skills and experience across a wide range of business areas including board operations and company secretarial, compliance, risk management, strategic and operational planning and brand management.
Bev is currently Group Company Secretary for the Australand Property Group which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. In this role, she also has responsibility for the compliance and communication functions, including brand management. Prior to joining Australand in October 2006, Bev held a number of senior management roles within the agricultural, health and financial services industries, including the position of Company Secretary/General Manager Risk & Compliance for the Australian Agricultural Company Limited, General Manager/Company Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Health Management Network Limited, Group Company Secretary of AMP Limited and Manager, Finance & Reporting for AMP Capital Investors Limited.
In 2002 Bev completed a 12 month contract with Standards Australia International developing a series of Australian Standards on Corporate Governance. Born in Scotland, Bev spent her formative years in New Zealand and returns to her adopted homeland regularly.

Don Churchill

Don has lived in Melbourne for six years leading the Fairfax Media publishing businesses until his retirement recently.
As Chief Executive and Publisher of Melbourne Publishing, he headed up The Age, The Saturday Age, The Sunday Age, and 33 community newspapers and magazines in the greater Melbourne metropolitan area, and Fairfax's internet sites of Domain, MyCareer and Drive in Melbourne, South Australia and West Australia. During that period he was a member of the Fairfax Media Limited executive leadership team. Don is currently a director of the New Zealand Victoria Business Group, and previously was a director of the New Zealand Publishers’ Association and the New Zealand Press Association.
Before moving to Australia, Don was the Chief Executive of a number of New Zealand daily newspaper businesses, including The Dominion Post in Wellington, The Press in Christchurch and The Nelson Mail. Don trained as a journalist and was editor of Wellington’s The Evening Post for seven years during the turbulent period of the 1980s. In the early 2000s he was a board member of the Christchurch Arts Festival, the publishing member of the New Zealand Advertising Complaints Board, and a board member of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival.
Don is married to Pat, also a journalist and food writer. They have two adult sons who both live and work in Melbourne.

Jim Minto

Jim was appointed Managing Director of TOWER Australia (now TAL) in November 2006 having previously been Group Managing Director of TOWER Limited overseeing the trans-Tasman TOWER businesses prior to the company separating along geographic lines.
A Chartered Accountant, Jim holds a number of other directorships and appointments and has been active in industry bodies throughout his career. He sits on the Board of the Association of Super Funds of Australia (ASFA) and is a Non executive Director of Australia Finance Group Limited.
Jim joined TOWER in New Zealand in 1988 as Managing Director the Group’s Trust business. He led several other TOWER businesses in New Zealand before taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer of TOWER Australia in November 2002. In March 2005, he was appointed Group Managing Director of the trans-Tasman TOWER Limited Group until the November 2006 demerger when he took up the TOWER Australia role.
He is a strong public advocate for the social importance of the life insurance industry to the people of Australia. He is also a keen follower of sport and enjoys playing golf. Born in Dunedin in New Zealand in 1951, he is resident in Sydney, Australia.

John McKay

John is the Managing Director of Farmers Marketing Network Pty Ltd which commenced business in 2003 to supply sustainable crop nutrition products to horticultural growers and farmers in Australia, New Zealand and more recently the United States of America.
The business uses scientific processes and extensive field research to address agricultural production problems in order to reduce risk and increase yields of intensive and arable crops. In 2010 the business developed domestic brands which are now marketed through retail nurseries and via internet marketing.
As a graduate of Massey University with a B.Ag.Sc he has had a career in Agricultural production, processing and domestic and international marketing, and working with major international, Australian and New Zealand corporations. Other commercial interests include a Directorship of a farm management group and the family ownership of an Apricot Orchard west of Sydney.

Mark Smith

Mark is based in Sydney and has been a director of Kea Australia for the past five years. Mark owns and operates the commercial law firm ANZ Lawyers, which operates in both Australia and New Zealand.
He has an LL.B. and an MBA (Hons) from the University of Canterbury. Mark’s legal practices include acting on a broad range of commercial legal work.
Mark’s specialist areas of work include capital markets work and mergers and acquisitions, particularly for small and medium sized businesses. Mark has a special interest in assisting NZ based businesses to raise equity capital outside of NZ.
